The process

Purity is a process.

Vodka is often described by how many times it has been distilled. We focus instead on how precisely it has been separated.

  1. STEP 01

    Select

    Every finished product begins with the quality of its raw material. We evaluate the spirit base before it ever enters the purification system.

  2. STEP 02

    Separate

    Different compounds behave differently as temperature and pressure change. The column takes advantage of those differences — separating more precisely than a typical single-column pass.

  3. STEP 03

    Purify

    Light compounds travel with the vapor and are drawn off the top. Heavy compounds stay with the liquid and leave from the bottom. Neither reaches the finished product.

  4. STEP 04

    Measure

    Temperatures, pressures, and densities are monitored continuously. The process is adjusted with data, not guesswork.

  5. STEP 05

    Taste

    Analytical measurement tells us the spirit is clean. Sensory evaluation tells us it is right. Every batch gets both.

  6. STEP 06

    Bottle

    The finished spirit is collected from the controlled center of the separation — then bottled. Each bottle is the intersection of engineering and human judgment.

Inside the experiment

This is only Experiment № 1.

Valence Vodka is the first result of a larger investigation into how spirits are purified, aged, extracted, blended, and experienced.

Four ways to run the experiment.

A clean base lets everything else speak clearly. Start neutral — then change one variable.

Sample 01 — no variables

The Control

  • 1.5 oz (45 ml) Valence Vodka
  • Nothing else — that's the experiment

Chill a small glass in the refrigerator (not the freezer) along with the bottle for at least an hour. Pour 1.5 oz (45 ml), smell before you sip, and let the glass warm slightly as you go — the aroma opens as the temperature rises.

Sample 02 — variable: dilution and CO2

The Solvent

  • 1.5 oz (45 ml) Valence Vodka
  • 4 oz (120 ml) chilled soda water
  • 1 strip of lemon or lime peel
  • Plenty of ice

Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the vodka, then pour the soda gently down the side to preserve carbonation. Give it one slow stir, express the citrus peel over the surface, and drop it in.

Sample 03 — variable: vermouth, trace

The Precipitate

  • 2 oz (60 ml) Valence Vodka
  • 0.5 oz (15 ml) dry vermouth
  • 1 lemon peel or 2 olives
  • Ice for stirring

Add the vodka and vermouth to a mixing glass with plenty of ice. Stir for a full 30 seconds — the goal is deep chill plus measured dilution, both of which are ingredients here. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and finish with an expressed lemon peel or olives.

Sample 04 — variable: citrus oil, expressed

The Catalyst

  • 2 oz (60 ml) Valence Vodka
  • 0.25 oz (7.5 ml) of your Experiment #010 citrus extract (or 3 wide strips of fresh lemon peel)
  • 0.25 oz (7.5 ml) simple syrup
  • 2 dashes chilled soda water
  • 1 final lemon peel, for expressing
  • Ice for stirring

If using fresh peels instead of extract, muddle them gently with the syrup in the mixing glass first, then remove. Add the vodka (and extract, if using), fill with ice, and stir 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe, add the two dashes of soda, and express the final lemon peel over the surface — watch the drink go faintly hazy as the oils meet the water.
